Sharing the ideas and conversations of APAM 2016 on Radio National.
The ABC and APAM present OUTSIDE EYES - EXPANDING THE CONVERSATION WITH ABC'S RADIO NATIONAL
Various venues throughout APAM
In 2016 we are proud to partner with the ABC’s unique Radio National (RN) to bring the ideas of this year’s APAM to a wider audience.
RN's vision and purpose is to nurture the intellectual and cultural life of this country, and to be a vital part of the contemporary Australian conversation. Together we hope to make our APAM conversations more widely accessible to the greater creative community.
Hosts Paul Barclay and Sarah Kanowski will capture, contribute to and disseminate the pertinent conversations arising from the market – including APAM’s Welcoming Words and Talking Heads panel series – producing a series of podcasts available online after the event wraps up.
MEET THE HOSTS
Radio National
With 60 distinct programs each week, the ABC’s Radio National is unique. It has become known as the Ideas Network, where people can hear the latest in science, books and publishing, religion, social history, the arts and current affairs. Most programs are podcast, and many are transcribed.
There's a growing archive of past programs in transcript and downloadable audio format, free on the RN website. All programs are thoroughly researched and lovingly presented by some of Australia's leading broadcasters.
Paul Barclay (Big Ideas)
Paul Barclay is a Walkley Award-winning journalist and broadcaster with an appetite for ideas and in-depth analysis and discussion. Paul has produced countless stories over more than 20 years for an array of programs on virtually all ABC radio networks. From time to time you will see him appearing on ABC TV and, when circumstances permit, he has produced radio documentaries for Radio National.
For many years Paul was the Executive Producer, and then presenter, of a national talkback and discussion program on RN. Paul’s ABC career kicked off in the ‘red centre’ of Australia – Alice Springs – from where he was the host of ABC Radio’s Northern Territory-wide, morning current affairs program.
Over the years Paul has won numerous awards, including a Walkley award for his investigation of Bundaberg’s notorious ‘Dr Death’, as well as United Nations Association of Australia and Queensland Media awards. He has written for various magazines and publications, has acted as program director at ABC Radio, been an ‘Australian correspondent’ for Radio New Zealand and a literary awards judge.
Paul can be seen conducting conversations, interviews, panel discussions and debates at various cultural events, venues and universities.
Sarah Kanowski (Books and Arts)
Sarah Kanowski presents the Books and Arts program on ABC RN on Saturdays. She has a Masters Degree in English from Oxford University, has edited Island magazine in Tasmania and also herded goats in Chile.
