PANEL #1

11:00 – 12:00

Ballroom 3, Sofitel Brisbane Central

Utopia and the Institution: Socially Engaged Art Practices in the 21st Century.

The word utopia has been used to describe both intentional attempts to create an ideal society and imagined ideal societies portrayed in fiction.

Both versions of a utopia have been created by contemporary socially engaged artists.  In politically, environmentally and socially tumultuous times, artists need to critique and consider the ways in which we are working, with each other, with other people and various institutions.

Using a two-page commissioned provocation by Alex Winters (Open Engagement) as a starting point, this panel explores the complexities of creating and producing socially engaged art alone, with other people and various presenting and commissioning partners.

Show Us Your Acronym (IETM, ISPA, NITF, APP): The Role that Informal and Formal Networks Play in Shaping the Future.

Acronyms are everywhere. They represent the growing demand for constructed networks of people with similar interests and objectives. These networks provide a meeting place where resources are shared and futures are planned.

From within APAM, this panel considers the role that formal and informal networks play in the development of our industry. Join several key representatives as they articulate the visions of their social platforms and provide an industry update on where they are going and why.
