We are working in uncertain times and every cultural leader, artist, organisation, and festival is navigating this territory differently.
TEMPORARY SHELTER is a process developed by well-known Australian arts leaders Alicia Talbot and Simon Wellington offering the exchange of ideas and skills with artists, organisations and audiences.
At APAM, they’re opening their process up to host conversations as part of The Exchange program, to engage with as many delegates as possible in and around APAM’s key venues, such as bars, theatre foyers, hotel lobbies and cafés.
Alicia and Simon will use these interactions to start mapping delegates’ big ideas and pressing concerns, building a documentary installation in the Graffiti Room at Brisbane Powerhouse, where you can drop in for a chat, look over their notes or check out articles and podcasts.
TEMPORARY SHELTER creates a space for APAM 2016 delegates for new thinking and ideas, reflections and mindfulness, technical knowledge, connections and networks.

MEET THE HOSTS
Alicia Talbot
Alicia Talbot’s extensive career in the arts has defined her as one of the country’s leading theatre makers and cultural leaders. Her expertise in developing collaborations across multiple sectors has seen her develop an impressive body of work with a deep interrogation of place and identity. As Artistic Director of Urban Theatre Projects and independently, she has conceived critically acclaimed theatre works for Australian and international festivals in Adelaide, Sydney, Toronto and London. She has been commissioned to devise and lead artist development, residency and exchange programs.
Her passion for provoking ideas and critical debate, led her to curate the 2013 Australian Theatre Forum, and extend her artistic practice to develop a new series of performance works and social leadership projects in non-arts settings. Alicia is currently Senior Strategic Projects Leader at Parramatta City Council, working to deliver the city’s new cultural plan and cultural infrastructure.
Simon Wellington
Simon Wellington has 20 years of experience as an arts manager, programmer and producer, working in Australia, Indonesia and the United Kingdom. Simon has managed a number of arts organisations, including Griffin Theatre Company and Urban Theatre Projects, and delivered programming and business operations for festivals and major public events. His projects have had a particular focus on creating site-based work in collaboration with artists from diverse cultural and artistic backgrounds, and have been presented in partnership with arts centres and festivals in Australia and overseas.
More recently, Simon has focused on strategies to create digital environments within organisations that support business development, engagement and diverse creative collaborations. In 2015, he produced the Australian Theatre Forum, and now works with Arts Council England managing a cross artform and local government portfolio in the east of England. Simon also worked as a foreign language consultant for The Jakarta Post and is a fellow of the Asialink Leadership Program.
