JOAN by THE RABBLE (APAM 2018 Showcase).

JOAN

Presented by The Rabble

24 – 28 February 2020

Everywhere there are women burning.
Joan raises her hand to the sky, it bursts into flames.

White ash falls. Joan is a teenage girl. A virgin soldier who will convince an army of men that she hears the voice of the divine. Her body will become the site of a nation’s anxieties and hopes. She will burn.

JOAN Presented by The Rabble

The Rabble explore female power and persecution through JOAN, a spectacular portrayal of France’s medieval heroine, Joan of Arc. Realised in black and white, JOAN pays homage to the art of live oration and silent film.

About The Artist

THE RABBLE (Kate Davis and Emma Valente) was formed in 2006 from a desire to make visually ambitious, political, feminist and formally experimental work. THE RABBLE radically reimagines theatrical experiences to repopulate familiar stories with female voices and aesthetics. The company’s unique productions are realised through sweeping design and intense theatricality.

In 2017, THE RABBLE celebrated over ten years of works and in the last four years has produced six new works, two tours, six creative developments, five residencies and two curated events.
