Barking Gecko Theatre

Australia

Barking Gecko Theatre (BGT) is a leading Australian theatre company that makes exquisitely crafted theatre for children and families that is both adventurous and surprising. For three decades BGT has been at the forefront of theatre for young audiences, demonstrating its ability to shift with the times and a continued track record of artistic excellence.

Through theatre, Barking Gecko tell stories that speak to children in the here and now – to their inner lives and the experience of growing up in a complex world. The theatre we create is as rich, layered and vibrant as the experience of childhood itself. More than ever, children need stories that confront the full complexity of the world they are living in, whilst offering hope, and a way forward.

In recent years BGT has created exceptional new works that have contributed to the Australian canon, celebrated cultural diversity, won multiple industry awards and grown our audience base nationally. BGT has re-ignited its touring strategy, returning to international touring in 2018.

Luke Kerridge commenced as Artistic Director in 2019. Luke’s first engagement with the company was as director of Bambert’s Book of Lost Stories (2016), a Helpmann Award winning production that has been touring Australia and the globe since its premiere. Luke works alongside Helen Hristofski, BGT’s CEO/ Executive Producer for the past seven years.
