Cat Jones
Australia
Cat Jones is an artist, writer and researcher thinking across social, biological and metaphysical realms.
She works with neuroscientists, botanists, entomologists, and gastronomists to create performance, live art, socially-engaged, audio-visual, edible and olfactory art designed to inspire curiosity and change the way you think.
Her work spans themes of multi-species relationships, environment, gender and sexuality, medicine, and speculative futures leading you to sculpt anatomy from a room full of sugar, smell olfactory landscapes from the future, dine on insects in a butterfly house, listen to the smell of cultural politics or let touch turn you into a plant. Her latest project Medicament for Your Predicament premiered with Performance Space at Liveworks Festival 2020 as a hybrid edition online and live at Carriageworks.
Major commissions include Sydney Festival, Vitalstatistix, The WIRED Lab and Proximity Festival. She has collaborated, presented and performed with Institute of Art and Olfaction (LA), point b (NY), fo.am (BEL), pvi collective, Blast Theory (UK), The League of Imaginary Scientists (USA), and many others and is an alumni of ANAT’s Synapse and SymbioticA residencies.
Cat has received numerous awards including a Creative Australia Fellowship, The Sadakichi Award for Art and Olfaction, a Create NSW Fellowship, and in 2021 received The Australia Council Award for Emerging and Experimental Art.
