Gabrielle de Vietri
Gabrielle de Vietri is the Mayor of the City of Yarra, a community activist and a former artist. As a socially engaged artist from 2004-2019 she created projects and commissions in major Australian and international galleries, museums and public spaces. She founded and co-directed A Centre for Everything, an independent pedagogical platform for creative, political community building. As an activist, she worked on large-scale community activations, protests, demonstrations and on issues of immigration detention and climate change. Gabrielle was elected to local government in 2020 and was elected Mayor of Yarra shortly afterwards. Her focus is to move the municipality to net zero-carbon by 2030; making sure that Yarra is an affordable and welcoming place to live for everyone; and creating a resilient and climate-safe future.
