Gary Lang is the choreographer and artistic director of the Northern Territory Dance Company. He is a Larrakia man from Darwin with extended family relationships in Yirrkala NT. Gary has worked widely throughout Australia and the world. He trained at the National Aboriginal and Islander Skills Development Association (NAISDA), graduating in 1990.
Since then he has performed, choreographed and travelled globally with some of Australia’s premier dance companies including Bangarra, Dance North, the Aboriginal and Islander Dance Theatre Company and his most recent collaboration with Deborah Cheetham and the Western Australian Ballet on the production of Milinjiya – Milky Way, River of Stars.
Gary creates sensual and evocative works presenting what has been described as ‘Aboriginal Ballet’, embedded in the traditions of an Indigenous Australian tale of spiritual interaction and retribution.
