Gravity & Other Myths

Australia

Through a series of disarmingly accomplished ensemble works, Gravity & Other Myths (GOM) has evolved to become an established and respected Australian company with the long-term goal of ongoing financial stability, leading to independent company sustainability.

Formed in 2009 by a group of young Adelaide artists with a passion for new circus and physical theatre, the past 11 years have seen GOM successfully consolidate our meteoric introduction to the arts sector. The circus industry, the wider arts community and audiences worldwide have embraced the unique playfulness, honesty and physical mastery in the company’s work.

A Simple Space, our first work, has achieved huge international success, receiving multiple awards and having performed more than 850 times across 34 countries. GOM’s subsequent large-scale MFI commissioned work, Backbone, has been touring for the past 4 years receiving awards (including 3 Helpmann award nominations) and critical acclaim worldwide. Our latest work, Out Of Chaos premiered in the 2019 Adelaide Festival, receiving the 2019 Helpmann Award for Best Physical Theatre. Out Of Chaos followed up its hugely successful premiere with a six month run at the renowned Chamäleon Theatre in Berlin, which was crowned one of their most popular seasons to date.

Over the past 6 years GOM has toured to 40 countries and played to audiences in excess of 450,000. In 2018 alone 22,000 Australians experienced a GOM performance and we reached a total audience number of over 160,000 worldwide in 2019.
