Dubbed the theatre capital of Asia, Shanghai is home to the China Shanghai International Arts Festival (CSIAF), the only state-level festival in China hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. CSIAF is an expansive, city-wide multi-arts festival that has a longstanding commitment to emerging artist development, through its Rising Artists’ Works (RAW) program, and has presented performances in city parks and squares, Shanghai’s beautiful art deco theatres, from Sydney Dance Company and The Australian Ballet, to independent artists Victoria Chiu and Mindy Meng Wang.

In June 2021, CSIAF launched its newest brand ‘ARTRA no-boundary playground’ with an aim of attracting young audiences to live theatre.
