Artists at the Centre: Approaches to International Collaboration

How can organisations, venues and communities work together to best support our artists? When resources are scarce and funding models precarious, how can we continue to share and show generosity? How do we facilitate flexible collaborative models, pool resources and establish meaningful ongoing relationships? How do we extend our hospitality across borders, and throughout our region? And, while doing so, how do we place artists at the centre of thinking, decision-making and defining artistic value?

Join Next Wave at Brunswick Mechanics Institute for a morning of reflection, readings and performances, sharing case studies and building new connections.

Refreshments will be provided by Mabu Mabu, a Torres Strait owned and run business with an emphasis on using fresh, seasonal and native ingredients to create beautiful dishes that bring people together.

ABOUT THE LOCAL PLAYER

Next Wave is Australia’s most comprehensive platform supporting the development and presentation of new work by emerging artists. We commission and develop ambitious artistic projects across all disciplines for presentation at our biennial Festival and at our venue the Brunswick Mechanics Institute. Key to achieving this, is our Next Wave X program, where we partner with peer organisations to co-commission and mutually support artists to make and present their best work. Next Wave is a values-driven organisation and industry leader, advocating for cultural inclusion, broad accessibility and best practice in environmental sustainability, with deep respect for the traditional custodians of the lands and waters that sustain us, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
