Smoke and Fire Yarns: Djab Wurrung Birthing Trees
Presented by Malthouse Theatre for APAM
Jason Tamiru, Yorta Yorta man and Malthouse Theatre Producer curates Smoke and Fire Yarns – local people, telling local stories.
Sacred birthing trees on Djab Wurrung country need protecting. Over 50 generations have been born on these sites and the birthing trees themselves are 800 years old. Lead by Djab Wurrung Elders, the Djab Wurrung Heritage Protection Embassy has been protecting the ancient trees from a planned highway extension that is set to destroy this dreaming landscape.
