ABOUT THE SHOW

“An immersive sonic event featuring new works by luminary art music composers, a mass of mobilised musicians, spatialised sonic choreography and a reframing of the marching band phenomenon.”

Speak Percussion takes percussive art to its physical and conceptual extremes – challenging music performance practice and redefining the limits of percussion. Sonic Eclipse is an immersive percussive event that interweaves four world premiere compositions into a seamless exhalation of spatialized sound. A reimagining of the marching band phenomenon, Sonic Eclipse brings together a mass of 50+ mobilised musicians to envelop the entire Melbourne Recital Centre with a spectrum of choreographed percussion and wind music. Interwoven are new works for percussion duodectet by some of Australia’s most acclaimed experimental-art music composers. This work is adaptable to a variety of spaces and has capacity to work at a large scale of community engagement.

Performers include members of Speak Percussion in collaboration with Melbourne’s music community
