The APAM Gathering at Asia TOPA was attended by over 400 national and international colleagues, representing 29 countries, and included 16 Showcase works from Asia TOPA, alongside 47 Profile presentations by Australian and New Zealand artists, 7 local player visits, 3 special events and an extensive exchange and talks program.
The APAM Gathering at Asia TOPA took place on the lands of the Kulin Nation.

APAM has now commenced an annual program of Gatherings that are presented alongside existing festivals. Gatherings are more than just a showcase. They will provide all the elements of traditional performing arts markets, but with full-length public performances.
Happening at established festivals across Australia, Gatherings will build more opportunities for collaboration across the performing arts.

Selected by a national curatorial panel from an expressions-of-interest process. Profile sessions offer opportunities for artists, companies and groups to share their repertoire, ideas and ambitions. Profile sessions include:

Curated by presenters and producers who are based in the host festival’s city.
Designed to offer participants a window into the contemporary performing arts sector locally, these events are collaborations between APAM and local players.

Curated by APAM, Exchange includes keynotes, panels, talks and networking programs at Gatherings.

AUSLAN INTERPRETING
Auslan interpreters will stand to the side of the speaker of performed action and translate the text and dialogue into Auslan while signing live.
AUDIO DESCRIPTION
Audio description enhances the live experience for people who are blind or have low vision. An audio describer uses a small transmitter to describe what is happening in a performance. People using this service use a personal listening device enabling them to sit in most parts of any venue and fully participate in the event.
As we come together from near and far at our first Gathering, APAM are committed to moving towards a sustainable future. Tasked to work towards this collectively, we ask you to join us throughout the Gathering to reduce our environmental impacts in the following ways:

Registrations to the APAM Gathering have now closed.
Your registration covers a 5 day program of activity from Monday 24 February through to Friday 28 February 2020.
In addition, you will need to purchase tickets to see showcased works presented as part of the Asia TOPA program so you can plan your time and resource effectively through the Gathering.

All registration fees are per person. Registrations are strictly non-transferable.

These prices are inclusive of a Goods & Services Tax (GST) of 10% and the Booking Fee is calculated based upon registration-type. APAM proudly uses Humanitix for all of their ticketing needs. Humanitix is a not-for-profit ticketing platform that gives events impact, directing 100% of profits from booking fees toward education projects.
If you are unable to pay via Credit Card, upon checkout simply select ‘Pay by Invoice’. You will then be sent an invoice and your ticket shall be held until payment is received. When paying the invoice, please ensure to include the invoice reference number in the ‘Description’ field of your electronic transfer.
The Gathering will be balanced to ensure an even mix and range of participants, across independent artists, organisations of different sizes, local and international participants, and diverse disciplines. There are limited registrations in each category — register early to avoid missing out!

What are Gatherings?
In 2020, APAM begins a series of annual events called Gatherings starting in Melbourne in February alongside Asia TOPA and then alongside Darwin Festival in August.
In delivering these Gatherings APAM works alongside existing festivals so that showcase works are authentically experienced by participating delegates – in full length, with full production values and with real audiences. In addition to full length showcasing, APAM Gatherings include profile opportunities for Australian and New Zealand artists and companies, visits and events hosted by local organisations that profile the place and artistic practices of the Gathering location and an exchange program of discussions, a summit and hosted networking. The objective of Gatherings is to enable industry participants to form deep, collaborative and reciprocal relationships with national and international colleagues.
I’ve purchased my registration and my tickets to Showcase performances in Asia TOPA and now I want to buy some tickets to other Asia TOPA shows. How do I do this?
The full Asia TOPA program is online, you can purchase tickets directly through the website.
My circumstances have changed, and I can no longer attend APAM. Can I have a refund on my registration?
APAM offers a partial refund of 50% of the payment received (GST inclusive) if a request is received on or before Friday 31 January 2020. All cancellations must be received in writing to hello@apam.org.au
There are no refunds for cancellations received on or after 1 February 2020, including non-arrivals.
Please note that APAM’s refund policy applies only to your registration. Any tickets to performances are subject to the refund policies of the relevant box office.
Can multiple people in my company use the delegate registration I purchase?
No, APAM Gathering registrations are strictly non-transferable. Your Participant’s Pass acts as your ticket throughout APAM and will have your headshot printed on it.
When will I get the full list of participants?
All registered Participants will have access to the full list of Participants in January 2020. This list will then be live, updating automatically as additional Participants register.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Melbourne is serviced by Public Transport Victoria (PTV), a network of trams, buses and trains. A Myki card can be used on any tram, bus or train service. The reusable Myki card is easy to use.
You can add money and purchase Myki cards from newsagents, magazine stands, 7-eleven stores and tram and railway stations. Look out for the City Circle Tram, which provides a free journey and commentary around the city. It’s a maroon-coloured tram that travels along Flinders, Spring, La Trobe and Spencer streets.
Please note, trains, buses and trams do not accept cash payments.
Myki cards cost $6 for an Adult and $3 for Concession/Children. You will then need to add a dollar amount to cover each trip, which can vary from $2.25 – $9.
FREE TRAM ZONE
The Melbourne CBD is a Free Tram Zone. The Free Tram Zone includes the area from the iconic Queen Victoria Market, across to Victoria Harbour in Docklands, up to Spring Street and over to Flinders Street Station and Federation Square. See map below.
Travel on trams within this zone is free, and you don’t need a Myki, however, if your journey starts or finishes outside the boundaries of the Free Tram Zone, you must touch on your myki at the reader in the normal way to make sure you have a valid ticket.
The Free Tram Zone signs at tram stops will identify the boundaries of the zone.
Please note that the Meat Market and Arts Centre Melbourne nearest tram stops both fall just outside of the Free Tram Zone.

Taxis in Melbourne are mostly YELLOW but are also sometimes white or silver. If taxis are available for hire the light on the roof will usually be ON. If the light is OFF it means the taxi is occupied. After 10pm, taxi drivers can ask for payment before you ride.

WEATHER
As a general rule, Melbourne enjoys a temperate climate with warm to hot summers and low humidity. The average temperatures in Summer in February is a high of 25C (77F) and a low of 14C (57F). However, it is not uncommon for Melbourne to experience temperatures as high as 40C (104F) in February. Please be prepared for anything – you may need an umbrella, sun-hat and sunscreen, or to wear layers that can be added or removed throughout the day, as needed.
