Darwin Festival

Postponed until 2021 | DARWIN, AUSTRALIA

We now find ourselves in unprecedented times and for our sector the implications of a global pandemic are wide-ranging and severe. We have made the decision, with the full support of Darwin Festival, to postpone the APAM Gathering at Darwin Festival until 2021. The current Expression of Interest process for Profile applications is now closed and will reopen on a revised timeline in 2021.

APAM’s Gathering at Darwin Festival will feature Profiles highlighting the repertoire, ideas and ambitions of a number of Australian and New Zealand artists and companies.

Held as part of the day-time program at the Gathering, Profiles comprise short 5-15 minute presentations by artists and companies in sessions including:
+ PITCH / for works in development seeking commission or presentation
+ SNAPSHOT / offering an insight into an artist or company’s body of work
+ TOUR-READY / for productions with a completed premiere

The Profile expression of interest process will reopen on a revised timeline in 2021.

Please keep checking back for updates on the APAM Gathering at Darwin Festival 2021.

Over the course of the APAM Gathering at Darwin Festival we will be visiting a number of local Darwin venues and organisations.

Check back for details on venue when Registrations open in May.

    15 - 18 AUGUST 2020 | DARWIN, AUSTRALIA

APAM Gatherings are presented alongside existing festivals and are more than just a showcase. They provide all the elements of traditional performing arts markets, but with full-length public performances.

Happening at established festivals across Australia, Gatherings build more opportunities for collaboration across the performing arts.

At Gatherings you can experience a range of activities including:

    SHOWCASED WORKS IN THE FESTIVAL
Curated and presented as part of the host festival. All showcased works are available to members of the public. Participants at Gatherings must purchase tickets to see showcased works. APAM ensures a limited number of tickets for all showcased works are made available to Gathering participants.

    PROFILES
Selected by a national curatorial panel from an expressions-of-interest process. Profile sessions offer opportunities for artists, companies and groups to share their repertoire, ideas and ambitions. Profile sessions include:
+ PITCH / for works in development seeking commission or presentation
+ SNAPSHOT / offering an insight into an artist or company’s body of work
    + TOUR-READY / for productions with a completed premiere

    LOCAL PARTNER EVENTS
Curated by presenters and producers who are based in the host festival’s city. Designed to offer participants a window into the contemporary performing arts sector locally, these events are collaborations between APAM and local players.

    EXCHANGE
Curated by APAM, Exchange includes keynotes, panels, talks and networking programs at Gatherings.

    REGISTRATIONS
To attend the APAM Gathering at Darwin Festival you will need to purchase a Registration via our ticketing platform, Humanitix, when they go on sale in May 2020. Your registration covers a busy 4 day program of activity from Saturday 15 August through to Tuesday 18 August 2020.

    COST OF REGISTRATION
All registration fees are per person. Registrations are strictly non-transferable and are unable to be shared between company or organisation staff.

The Gathering will be balanced to ensure an even mix and range of participants, across independent artists, organisations of different sizes, local and international participants, and diverse disciplines.

    DARWIN FESTIVAL – SHOWCASE WORKS
In addition to your Gathering registration you will need to purchase tickets to see Showcased works presented as part of the Darwin Festival (6-23 August) program so you can plan your time and resource effectively through the Gathering.

Profile is the APAM program profiling the ideas, works and practices of Australian and New Zealand artists and organisations.

At APAM Gatherings, Profile sessions offer opportunities for artists, companies and groups to share their repertoire, ideas and ambitions.

For Darwin Festival, APAM will offer Profile sessions during the day for participants at the Gathering to hear from artists and companies.

There will be three types of Profile session:

+ PITCH / for works in development seeking commission or presentation

+ SNAPSHOT / offering an insight into an artist or company’s body of work

    + TOUR-READY / for productions with a completed premiere

By grouping Profiles into these three session types, we hope to invite collaboration, exchange and opportunities for artists and organisations at all stages of a works’ lifespan.

All Profile sessions are open to both Australian and New Zealand artists and companies.

    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

    What is an APAM Gathering?
In 2020, APAM begins a series of annual events called Gatherings which began in Melbourne in February alongside Asia TOPA and now continues to August alongside Darwin Festival. In delivering these Gatherings APAM works alongside existing festivals so that showcase works are authentically experienced by participating delegates – in full length, with full production values and with real audiences. In addition to full length showcasing, APAM Gatherings include profile opportunities for Australian and New Zealand artists and companies, visits and events hosted by local organisations that profile the place and artistic practices of the Gathering location and an exchange program of discussions, a summit and hosted networking. The objective of Gatherings is to enable industry participants to form deep, collaborative and reciprocal relationships with national and international colleagues.

When applying for a Profile EOI, can I submit more than one application?
Yes, you may submit up to two (2) EOI’s in total across the three (3) Profile session types: Pitch, Snapshot and Tour-Ready.

When do the Profile EOIs close for the APAM Gathering at Darwin Festival?
EOI’s close at midnight (AEST) on Thursday 16 April 2020.

Can I apply for Profile if my EOI was unsuccessful for the APAM Gathering at Asia TOPA?
Yes, you may apply for Profile at APAM Gathering at Darwin Festival if your EOI for the APAM Gathering at Asia TOPA was unsuccessful. However, you may not reapply for Profile if your project or organisation was successful and presented at the APAM Gathering at Asia TOPA, unless you are applying with a different project. This applies to those projects presented as part of Pitch or Tour-Ready sessions only.
