Revival

A Faustian burlesque for string quintet, sampled fairground organs and four ‘alter egos’.

Revival is a darkly comic musical work that collides early 20th century vaudeville with the legend of Faust in a high-paced, semi-narrative work in ten scenes.

Blazing through a series of stock situations, devices and archetypes, it follows the rise, fall, re-ascension and eventual immortalisation of Broadway ingénue Dorothy Days. Dorothy signs with devilish agent Bea Bubb in order to be assured of the lead role of Medusa in a revival of an old musical, called Revival. Eliminating all barriers in increasingly radical and violent means, Dorothy’s ultimate fate is sealed when she is transformed into a virtual product doomed to repeat and repeat her Revival role forever.

Three time Green Room Award winning composer David Chisholm has developed this work with an enviable cast of celebrated cabaret 'alters': Meow Meow, Yana Alana, Tina Del Twist and Mikelangelo, plus the musical talents of Nic Synot and the Silo Quartet.
