Shine Lady

Bringing to life the striking images of female divinity including the Madonna and the Hindu goddess’ Kali and Pavarti, Shine Lady traces and explores the cycles of human life. Full of strange surprises, humour and pathos, this new work creates an otherworldly experience designed to entrance and inspire  audiences of all ages.

Shine Lady is primarily an abstract contemporary dance for three performers, but so rich in imagery and detail that it is a joy to watch. The set, designed by Mike Petre, is a magical series of wooden boxes, with turned legs and apendages illuminated from within by remote controlled LED. lights. The music is a bizarre journey from Bach cello suites, PJ Harvey, Bandicoot (3 NZ schoolkids), to infectious gypsy romps.

“Dewey’s work is idiosyncratic and unique, its inner coherence and artistry and joy to watch.” – Francesca Horsley, NZ Listener.

“Gorgeous dancers…..a bejewelled celebration of the primordial feminine cosmic energy” - Bernadette Rae, NZ Herald.

“Overall, the audience is left with the impression of witnessing something which is far above and beyond the everyday world.” – Roxanne de Bryun, Theatreview.
