Cantina

From Australia’s most respected creators of new circus, Scott Maidment (Tom Tom Crew, Dream Menagerie, Feasting on Flesh) and Chelsea McGuffin (Circa), comes this award-winning spectacle of classic vaudeville, magic, music and remarkable displays of dance and acrobatics. Cantina is an award winning production seemingly set in a drinking establishment of a bygone era which frequently tours in magnificent Spiegeltents.

Cantina explores the tension between harsh reality and escapist fantasy where characters find refuge in this late-night world of seduction, sweat and tequila. A live soundscape is created by antiquated instruments: a gramophone, pianola, air organ and jewellery boxes, revisited and revamped. Broken glass and breathtaking acrobatics intensify the percussion of heartbeats, of the performers and the audience, alike.

Since Cantina’s world premiere at the Brisbane Festival in August 2010, the show has toured continuously to sellout seasons around Australia and internationally to the UK, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France. In 2012 Cantina returns to Adelaide and tours to New Zealand, Colombia and London.

Strut & Fret is an internationally renowned company producing and managing events, theatrical productions, performers and venues with a unique ‘catch-your-breath’ style.

Since inception in 1997 the company has worked in numerous capacities within the Arts, Entertainment and Event industries. Innovative entertainment, high-flying spectacle, explosions of stunts, nu-circus, extreme theatre, dynamic music and quality management collide to make our work unmistakeable.
