Three Men in a Tub

Three Men in a Tub is a processional and static street theatre spectacle built around a ‘homemade’ mobile vehicle (the tub) that serves as a home for three tradesmen – a Butcher, a Baker and a Candlestick Maker.

Exiled from their countries due to war, drought and political turmoil, they have travelled across the world, popping up in India, Korea, Portugal, Chile and Australia as they search for a place to call home. But, without a community to share their trades with, they are gradually losing their skills. And, as other daily rituals have taken over their lives, their ancient trades are becoming almost redundant.

Three Men in a Tub is a sometimes comedic, sometimes tragic physical theatre work incorporating amplified sound and music. Examining notions of identity, nationalism, religion, authority, belonging and a sense of ‘home’, these three characters’ interdependent relationships explore the daily struggles of friendship and love, hate and fear, cruelty and compassion.

Original concept by Stephen Noonan and directed by Jason Cross.
