Lucy Guerin Inc presents Live Movie
A cinematically inspired dance work that uses the medium of film as a choreographic score
Experience the immediacy of live performance in dialogue with the mesmerizing power of cinema in Lucy Guerin Inc’s new work Live Movie.
At once a homage to the moving image and a rebellion against it, Live Movie looks at how film influences our thoughts, actions and identity. It examines the familiar tropes of filmmaking and explores the transference of information from one medium to another. The performers are both viewer and the protagonist, and as the movie unfolds they use images, dialogue, sounds, narrative and camera movement as motivations for dance and movement.

Lucy Guerin Inc
Lucy Guerin Inc is an Australian dance company dedicated to challenging and extending the art of contemporary dance. Established in Melbourne in 2002 to create and tour new dance works, it is a flexible organisation renowned for the skill and originality of its small group of performers. The company is committed to the exploration of everyday events and the redefinition of the formal concerns of dance. New productions are generated through an experimental approach to creative process and may involve voice, video, sound, text and industrial design as well as Guerin’s lucid physical structures. Crucially, this is always a choreographic exploration, striving for visual, emotional and physical revelations that could not be generated or communicated in any other artform.
