“Freedom of expression demonstrated by creativity is a social asset. If consumers are only presented with what they want or will readily accept, then the potential for social change and intellectual diversity is greatly curtailed.”  (Hirschman, 1983)

Following on from the success of their 2014 lunchtime workshop, Theatre Network Australia (TNA) and Australian Performing Arts Centres Association (APACA) again join forces to present a workshop exploring needs, wants and desires in the arts world.

What does it mean to make and present art that is relevant to audiences? As makers and presenters how do we balance giving audiences what they will readily accept and also build social capital?

Hosted by Rick Heath and Nicole Beyer, this workshop explores these questions from different perspectives, taking into account the needs, wants and desires of art makers, presenters and audiences.

Panel Members:

  • PHILIPPE BACHMAN, Director, La Comete - National Stage & 360 Network, France
  • ROSIE DENNIS, Artistic Director, Urban Theatre Projects, Sydney
