Traditional Tiwi Island Dreamtime culture meets European pantomime
Playwright Jason De Santis brings a Tiwi twist to fairytale favourite Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, in a modern Aboriginal adventure story packed with spirit and humour.
Wulamanayuwi and the Seven Pamanui is a joyful romp through a familiar tale of myth and magic, featuring the language and rhyme of the Tiwi Islands, north of Darwin. Narrated by Japarra the Moon Man, join Wulamanayuwi, daughter of a Tiwi warrior, on her journey to rescue her seven little brothers transformed by Jirrakilala, her evil stepmother into mischievous spirits, the seven Pamanui. Puppets, song and dance combine to delight audiences of all ages.

Meet the artist
Darwin Festival
Darwin Festival Produced develops and showcases the distinctive culture and stories of the Northern Territory. As the producing arm of Darwin Festival we identify and support artists whose work reflects our diverse local Indigenous and multicultural population.
One of these artists is young and emerging playwright Jason De Santis who was commissioned to develop his first script – the story of Wulamanayuwi – in 2009. From the Tiwi Islands, De Santis has been attracting national attention for his lyrical prose and magical storytelling.
Director Eamon Flack was born in Singapore and grew up in the tropics, with a stint in Darwin during his youth. He has worked as an actor, director, writer and dramaturge for numerous companies all around Australia and is currently the Artistic Associate of Belvoir St Theatre.
