MISSION SONGS PROJECT - 1957 PALM ISLAND STRIKE
Finding a protest voice through song.
Join Jessie Lloyd and her band on a musical journey through the songs and stories surrounding the 1957 Palm Island strike for human rights, an important story of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history unknown by the general population.
Through the lens of Lloyd’s own family experiences, this unique concert celebration provides powerful insight into the way Indigenous people adapted western music traditions and instruments as a way to continue their own cultural practices when this was banned by white administrators.
Due to the limited capacity of this Showcase, delegates are required to sign up for this event at the Delegate Lounge or at any APAM Information Desk.

Jessie Lloyd
Originally from the tropics of North Queensland, Jessie Lloyd is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musician who performs a broad collection of Australian Indigenous songs.
A composer, performer and creative entrepreneur, she is dedicated to the continuation of cultural traditions through the presentation of both contemporary and traditional Indigenous music and has travelled Australia in search of hidden songs to present a rare Indigenous narrative.
