ABOUT
Australia’s leading, internationally focused industry event for contemporary performing artS
Established in 1994 by the Australia Council for the Arts, the Australian Government’s arts funding and advisory body, the Australian Performing Arts Market (APAM):
- Showcases and promotes a thriving, diverse national sector
- Stimulates the ongoing dialogue, collaboration and exchange between local artists and producers and their international counterparts to grow the export of Australian performance.
APAM’s key purpose continues to be the increase of international and national touring opportunities for Australian contemporary performing arts groups and artists. APAM champions and invests in Australian Arts.
While APAM champions and invests in Australian arts it also offers a platform through The Exchange program for curated conversation, networking opportunities and memorable market events.
HISTORY: APAM was first held in Canberra in conjunction with the National Festival of Australian Theatre, before moving to South Australia where it was presented in conjunction with the Adelaide Festival and Adelaide Fringe from 1998 to 2012.
In 2011, the Australia Council awarded the tender for APAM 2014, 2016 and 2018 to Brisbane Powerhouse, which will see the events held in the Queensland capital for the respective years.
APAM 2018 WILL BE HELD IN BRISBANE, QUEENSLAND FROM MONDAY 19 FEBRUARY - FRIDAY 23 FEBRUARY 2018.
BRISBANE: Brisbane Powerhouse is the home for APAM 2018 activities and performances, with some events also held at partner venues including the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), and Sofitel Brisbane Central. Sofitel Brisbane Central is the official hotel partner and host venue of The Exchange.
APAM 2014, 2016 and 2018 are presented by the Australia Council for the Arts in partnership with Brisbane Powerhouse. Brisbane City Council is the principal supporter of APAM. The Queensland Government, through Arts Queensland, part of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, and Tourism and Events Queensland, proudly supports APAM 2014, 2016 and 2018.
