EXPERIENCE BRISBANE

Galleries and Museums

Nestled in the heart of Brisbane along the banks of the meandering River you’ll find Brisbane’s Cultural Precinct. Explore the art galleries, museum and the architecturally-designed State Library of Queensland.

Markets

Brisbane’s warm weather makes outdoor markets the perfect way to shop. With a collection of farmers’ and young designer markets across the city you’ll be able to stroll and sample some of Queensland’s best produce and designs.

For the Adventurer

Looking for adventure in Brisbane? There’s certainly no shortage! For the more active types you can:

  • climb Brisbane’s iconic Story Bridge;
  • kayak on the Brisbane River;
  • abseil down the Kangaroo Cliffs; or
  • get up close and personal with the unique Australian wildlife at Australia Zoo.

For an Afternoon well spent in Brisbane

Like many cities only those that live in it can reveal its secrets. To spend an afternoon like a local why not explore some of the APAM team’s favourite spots around town:

  • Get lost in never-ending aisles of one of Brisbane’s best second-hand book stores, Archives Fine Books in Brisbane CBD.
  • Visit second-hand stores, beautiful book shops, long-lost record stores and wonder the streets, single-origin coffee in hand, in West End.
  • Hire a bike and cycle along the meandering paths by the Brisbane River.
  • Explore the antique stores in Woolloongabba and finish with a cocktail and tapas at Canvas or one the many al-fresco dining options.
  • Enjoy a game of mini golf, with a drink in hand at Holey Moley in Fortitude Valley.
  • After a morning at the Queensland Art Galleries explore Fish Lane and have a cocktail at Maker or pizza at Julius Pizzeria before catching a CityCat to Brisbane Powerhouse.

Brisbane Greeters

Another great way to see Brisbane City is via the Brisbane Greeter program. Meet friendly locals, loaded with knowledge about the history and culture of Brisbane. You can make a booking to suit your own schedule via their website.

The Brisbane Greeters have designed bespoke tours for a range of different interests. The Aboriginal Heritage, Pride (LGBTIQ+ history) or Public Art tours may be of interest to APAM delegates to give you a different perspective on the city. You can select one of these tours by choosing a “Your Choice” and entering your preferred tour into Q9 on the registration form.

We encourage you to book at least seven days before you arrive as the “Your Choice” tours require organisation time and Greeters are very popular with visitors to Brisbane.
