A CALL TO DANCE
A physical confessional – what moves you?
A Call to Dance is a participatory work engaging participants in a physical conversation about cultural ownership and authorship.
Asking questions about heritage, belonging, place for expression and cultural authenticity, Amrita Hepi will meet and move with participants, exploring the ideas that are important to them.
Whether it’s climate change, homelessness, great love, morning rituals or the taste of tea, participants will identify a move that articulates something profoundly personal.
See your shared conversations and private expressions take shape as Hepi borrows gestures to create a dance celebrating this place and its people.

Amrita Hepi
Amrita Hepi is a Bundjulung and Ngapuhi dancer and choreographer working in experimental dance. Her choreography is rooted in creating movement in transitional spaces, interweaving her rich cultural heritage and contemporary dance training. The barriers of intersectionality, cultural memory and pop culture references feature in her work.

She has exhibited and performed at Sydney Opera House, Next Wave Festival, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Carriageworks, TEDX and Banff Centre in Canada.
