THE COMING BACK OUT BALL

A spectacular celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) elders.

The Coming Back Out Ball blends showbiz bells and whistles, community celebration, heartfelt storytelling, dinner and dancing.  The inaugural event featured a star-studded cast of LGBTI performers including Robyn Archer, Carlotta, Deborah Cheetham, Gerry Connelly and Lois Weaver.

Inspired by research revealing some LGBTI elders conceal their sexual or gendered identity when they access aged care services – because they don’t feel safe. These LGBTI elders have lived through times in which being LGBTI could result in imprisonment, enforced medical ‘cures’, loss of employment and rejection by family and friends.

For this generation, impending old age may mean going back into the closet, or the risk of being deprived companionship or quality care when they need it most.
