TRADITIONAL OPENING CEREMONY

Acknowledging the First Nations.

Since 2014, APAM has been held on the lands of the First Peoples of Australia, the Turrbal, Yugarapul/Ugarapul and Jagera. They are the traditional owners of the lands and waterways on which we gather to share art and tell our collective stories.

APAM acknowledges and respects the Elders of the community both past, present and future, and through this traditional Welcome to Country ceremony, welcomes local, national and international delegates to experience the culture of our Australian First Peoples.

APAM 2018 will welcome a broad delegation of local and international First Nations guests – Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, Maori and Pacifika, Taiwanese and North American peoples. In the spirit of unity and togetherness, our Traditional Opening Ceremony will pave the way for a fruitful exchange between our international community.
