What is the difference between a Showcase and Pitch?

The Showcase category is for finished productions that are ready to tour; this category was previously known as ‘Spotlight’.

The Pitch category is for work in development or works that cannot be presented in the Showcase category (such as large-scale, site-specific work). This category was previously known as ‘Searchlight.’

How many Showcase and Pitch spots are available?

This entirely depends on the number and quality of applications we’ll receive. Our Curatorial Panel will use the number of full-length productions, excerpt showcases and pitches previously presented at APAM as a guide.

What do you mean by Artistic Excellence? 

This selection criterion is designed to tease out the quality and significance of the underlying creative foundation, presentation (if applicable) and distinctiveness of the proposed work. It considers the creative team, the artistic realisation (if applicable), critical review, and audience response (if applicable) to the proposed work. It also considers the context and place of the work, both nationally and internationally.

What is a strategic market development plan in the context of APAM? 

This selection criterion uncovers the artist/company’s market development plan for the proposed work, and highlights the role that an APAM Showcase will deliver in regard to national and international activities such as touring, residency, exchange, co-productions, co-commissioning aspirations, etc. It measures the artist/company’s ability to articulate the APAM Showcase as part of a wider, targeted and feasible market development plan. 

What do you mean by ‘tour-readiness’? 

This selection criterion identifies the artist/company’s capacity to follow up on opportunities that could arise through an APAM Showcase. It considers the: 
  • Previous touring experience of the artist/company and, if this is limited, the steps the artist/company has in place to follow up on opportunities that may present themselves at APAM 2014. 
  • Quality control methods in place to manage any on-going relationships that may arise. 
  • Tour management, specifically in relation to availability (e.g. artists availability, set etc.), artist/company’s capacity to maintain quality of the work on the road, professional practices in place for elements from insurances to marketing, and a strategy that builds the artist/company’s reputation, profile and future income earning capacity. 

What are the eligibility criteria for APAM 2014 program applications?

Please refer to the Application Information page to find out about eligibility criteria for the APAM 2014 program. Note that the criteria for the Showcase category are different to the Pitch category.

How do I apply to the APAM 2014 program?

What do I need to apply?

Do I have to complete my online application all in one go, or can I save my application and return to it later?

Yes, you can complete your application step by step. Your application will be auto-saved as you progress through the application form; however ONLY COMPLETED SECTIONS WILL BE SAVED.

To find out, which information and supporting material you need per section, download the instruction manual relevant to your programming category above.

Once a section is completed and saved, you can navigate backwards using the tab titles on the top of each page of the online application form, and replace documents and files previously uploaded. 

Is it possible for companies to apply for both a showcase and a pitch for different works if they want to?

Yes, companies can apply to APAM 2014 with more than one work or work in development.

Please note that you will have to start a new application for each work or work in development.You will need a different login email address for your different applications; the contact details for the production, however, can be the same.

Why do I have to rank APAM venues as part of my Showcase application?

We have integrated a venue ranking process into the Showcase application as a way for you to become familiar with the available venues during APAM 2014 and indicate which venue would best suit your work. Venue ranking works as a guide only, no venue preferences can be guaranteed. You can download the venue specifications document here.

Why are budgets required for Pitches when no budget or price is required for Showcases?

We are asking for an overall budget for every pitch application as a budget reflects thought and consideration into the development stage of the uncompleted work. We have provided a budget template to make this process easier for you. See the budget template above.

How will successful applicants be selected?

Successful applicants will be selected by the APAM Curatorial Panel, a group of internationally recognised artists and producers that have come together to curate the program for APAM 2014. 
 
There are two Curatorial Panel sub-groups; one for Australian works and one for New Zealand works. Details about members of these groups will be released later in the year. 
 
The respective APAM Curatorial Panel groups will meet in August 2013 to deliberate all APAM program applications. Successful applicants will be notified on 10 September 2013.
 

Do I need to register as a delegate when I apply to the APAM 2014 program?

That depends. If your APAM 2014 program application is successful, you or your company will receive one complimentary delegate pass for the person introducing and representing your work/work in development.

If you are planning for more than one person from your company to attend APAM 2014, you will need to purchase additional delegate passes. You can find out more about registering as an APAM 2014 delegate here.

Will booths be available at APAM 2014? If so, how can I apply?

Yes, absolutely! APAM 2014 is introducing new mobile booths that will follow the delegation and pop up in the foyers and spaces where the APAM 2014 program will be presented at. For more information, click here.
