A beautiful way to invite the public to be surprised, to stop and view their environment differently. Le Devoir, Montreal [translation]

First commissioned by The EDGE, Auckland; Winning Productions present SOUNDIG (NZ)

22 February 10:55am - 11:20am Brisbane Powerhouse - Rooftop Terrace Large Scale, Site Specific and/or Outdoor Special Event All Ages

An interactive sound installation drawing on the language of archaeology and the fantasy of Escher’s Impossible Staircase

SOUNDIG is an archaeo-acoustic installation that creates a fun environment where the public are invited to play, listen, contemplate, investigate and question.

An enormous pipe has been re-discovered underground in a ‘soundig’ and pseudo-archaeologists have examined it using experimental techniques that extract aural residue from the layers of sediment inside. The pipe is excavated and on display, ready to be explored – with port-holes allowing views to hidden places and listening pipes allowing access to snippets of sound collected from the immediate location. SOUNDIG is an artist’s museum, equal parts history, perception, imagination and the joy of discovery.
