Mumpsimus presents You, Me and the Bloody Sea

18 February 9:30pm - 11:00pm Brisbane Powerhouse - The Hub Music, Music Theatre, Opera, Cabaret Club Adults (18+)

Serenades, fist fights and sea shanties from the age of oil

Adelaide trio Mumpsimus has created a boisterous new music theatre adventure set on a North Sea oil rig. Featuring original music invoking traditional sea shanties, siren songs and seventies power rock love ballads, You, Me and the Bloody Sea is rollicking good fun.

It's 1975. The world threatens to slow in the grips of an energy crisis. Four men head out into the fury of the North Sea, each seeking riches from the deep. Here are the songs that remember these hitherto unsung heroes, the violence and tenderness they shared, the calamity that befell them, and the oil rig they called home.

Meet the artist

Mumpsimus

Mumpsimus is the plaything of award-winning Adelaide artists Cameron Goodall, Quincy Grant and Andy Packer. The trio, along with its collaborators, are outstanding artists who sing original stories to life, creating an alchemy of songbook and storybook. The group's name comes from a mid-16th century misuse of the Latin term 'sumpsimus' and means a person who obstinately adheres to old customs or ideas in spite of evidence that they are wrong or unreasonable. You, Me and the Bloody Sea is Mumpsimus's debut work.
